The poker game "Pot Limit Omaha" is an exciting game derived from the poker game "Texas Hold'em". In Omaha, players are dealt a total of four hole cards (as opposed to two in Texas Hold'em). These hole-cards belong only to that poker player to which they were dealt. Five community cards are dealt face-up on the "board" (first the flop is dealt, then the turn card, then the final "river" card). Players in the hand must use three of the five community cards in conjunction with two of their four hole cards to make the best five-card poker hand.
Omaha Poker Game Types
- Pot Limit Omaha (PLO)- Players can bet an amount equivalent to what is in the pot (ie, a player can bet $200 into a $200 pot).
- Limit Omaha - A betting limit is applied in each game and on each round of betting.
- Omaha Hi-Low (AKA high-low split/Omaha 8 or better) - Players make two separate 5 card hands (their high hand, and their low-hand), and the pot is split between the high hands and the low hands. The high hand is standard Omaha hand, while the low hand must consist of five cards, eight high or lower (e.g. 8-7-6-5-4 ) to qualify for a chance to win the low pot to qualify for low.
